We've noticed an interesting trend and a growing cluster in the Boston tech scene... Pet Tech. Yes, companies who are providing a product or service to help keep owners and their furry friends happy and content. We've actually written about several of them.

Inspired by a recent market map of the pet tech industry by CB Insights, we thought it would make sense to pull together a slideshow of all of the companies in the Boston area.

Founded by Lindsay Hyde and Meghan Reiss, Baroo is a full-service pet conceirge which operates in urban, luxury multifamily properties in premier cities across the U.S.

Chewy is an online pet specialty retailer. The company's headquarters are based in Florida, but Chewy recently opened a Boston office to tap into the local tech and eCommerce talent.

This just in... Chewy, which had raised $236M in funding, announced an acquisition by PetSmart. According to Recode, the deal is worth $3.35B, making it the largest eCommerce acquisition ever.

VetX provides a platform which is used by veterinary clinics and hospitals. It allows for emergency-related communication between a pet owner and veterinarians via phone or on-demand video.

When the family dog goes missing, it can be an anxiety-inducing time. PetSimpl's Pip is a GPS locator that can be placed on a dog's collar, and will allow owners to keep track of where they are. It also functions as an activity tracker, like a Fitbit for dogs.

PetSimpl got their start by running a successful Kickstarter campaign. We recently wrote about the company, as they are getting ready to ship their product to customers.

We met Marcia Alden, the founder & CEO of PawsGlobal, at a recent event in Boston. The company is tackling an underserved segment in the travel industry... that being pet travel.

According to their website, over 2 million pets flew with passengers on planes last year. PawsGlobal is aiming to simply the transportation of pets with its end-to-end, cloud based solution for the airline industry.
