About Prism and what they do
So we are PrismHR, we were founded in 1985. We're currently at about 500 employees, 200 of which include engineering, and that covers QA engineers, infrastructure engineers, as well as your day to day coders. We are primarily in the payroll and human resource management space. So we specialize in payroll software, we specialize in benefits. And that's kind of what we build here present.
Projects engineers get to work on and the technologies they use
Right now, I mean, we got some three pretty interesting projects going on here at PrismHR, something that we're working on is we're revamping all of our single sign-ons to use Okta in the OAuth spec. So that's been a highly anticipated feature for something for all of our platforms. So it'll be one single sign-on for all prisons, not these individual side logins. Another thing that we're doing is we're revamping our reporting and analytics, we just recently released our Report Center application. So that has actually focused on taking data out of our legacy database unit data, and ETL in that into Postgres, and Elastic Search. So those are some of the technologies we're using. We're also doing POC projects right now investigating the use of snowflake, which is pretty cutting edge, as well as using data bricks to provide more data analytics and reporting tools to our customers. Then the last big project that we have going on right now is we're really looking at how can we modernize the PrismHR platform. So you might have heard me mention unit data a few seconds ago, that is our legacy database. That's something that we've had around since the beginning. And we're looking at revamping that and moving data from that to other places, as well as using new JavaScript frameworks to build more modern web applications that we can then give to our customers.
What to expect during the interview process
Right now we're doing a really a two-step interview process. So we start with a phone screen, phone screens. For me, at least the ones that I'm doing are relatively informal. I asked some technical questions just to gauge a baseline of what have you worked with? What are you looking for, as well as trying to gauge cultural fit? Are you someone that's going to jump in with the engineering team? Do you have a good attitude, things like that, and then we go from there. After the phone screening process, you'll have another round of interviews, usually with three other members of the engineering team. So that could be someone from the product, QA, as well as engineering. And from there, again, we're trying to gauge the cultural fit of how you work with the different pieces of engineering because that's very important to us. Every engineering team here at PrismHR is cross-functional. So we're are a Scrum and Agile based group. So we tie very closely to product QA. It's really one cohesive unit. And we want to make sure everyone gets buy-in as we bring in new people to the groups. So again, that could be again, more cultural fit stuff, as well as more deeper technical questions, based off of what position you're applying for within the company.
About PrismHR's culture
So the culture here at PrismHR, it's a very team-oriented and a team-centric culture, everyone pitches in to help out, I've been here, for now, nine years, I started off as an intern. When I first started, I didn't know anything, really. And I was coming fresh out of school, I often had to go to other developers across other teams, other departments, and everyone was super helpful. And always made sure I kind of was able to know what I needed, got the information I needed, and didn't hesitate to stop what they're doing to help us out that has very much carried over to almost all our teams here at PrismHR throughout the nine years that I've been here. And it's for me, that's fantastic. You know, I mean, we bring in new people, contractors, everybody that I've worked with, and everyone that they work with, has always said the same thing, you know, very easy to work with very friendly, and just easy to go to.
Why now is the ideal time to join
As I mentioned before, we are working on some pretty hot cutting-edge technology. We're looking at revamping our platform, we're looking for good engineers, that would excite and motivate to come join us. And we're looking for help, you know, I mean, it's a competitive market. We're really just trying to bring in the best people we can and get this project underway. So it's a good time to join because you're going to be at the start of something new. And for me that's very exciting. And I know other developers will probably feel the same way.
