As the Senior Human Factors Researcher, you will own all human factors testing within WHOOP Labs, including in person and remote studies. You will work closely with stakeholders from Digital Health, Data Science, and Internal Tooling to design and execute human factors studies. A key element of your responsibilities will be to lead all regulatory testing to ensure the safety of new WHOOP features and devices. You will also own remote studies run through Digital WHOOP Labs and support future platform development.
Candidates must be prepared to work in person at WHOOP Labs in Boston, MA 5 days per week. This role will have the option to flex hours to accommodate study sessions outside standard business hours as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead human factors studies for regulated features, including formative and summative testing
- Work with the Regulatory Affairs team to ensure test documentation meets necessary reporting standards for regulatory submissions
- Coach other researchers on human factors best practices, including training additional study moderators and note-takers to support testing needs
- Own remote studies distributed through the Digital WHOOP Labs platform
- Support IRB submissions for remote studies when appropriate
- Consult with stakeholders across Data Science, Product, and Marketing to identify opportunities to use Digital WHOOP Labs to answer research / business questions
- Create user requirements and iteratively test designs for internal lab systems
- Conduct additional product research (e.g. color/material/finish, form factor) in collaboration with UX Research as needed
- Report progress regularly and present findings to department heads
- Reports to the Research Team Manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited university
- Masters Degree in Human Factors/a related field OR 4-6 years of experience with human factors research, cognitive systems engineering, hardware usability, design research, or safety and regulatory research
- Strong understanding of human factors / design research elements (e.g. study design, session moderation, analysis methods)
- Prior experience with hardware device / physical consumer product testing
- Familiarity and comfort with navigating health authority expectations for human factors; prior experience with international usability standards and guidance valuable (e.g., ANSI/AAMI/IEC 62366-1, ANSI/AAMI HE75, FDA guidance, NMPA guidance, ISO 14971)
- Understanding of survey methodology and remote study design best practices; prior experience running remote studies valuable
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Currently located in the Greater Boston area
