About Motus and what they do
So Motus at its core is a mileage tracking and reimbursement software for companies who have mobile workforces. That is our core business. So for any company that has drivers on the road, and this can range from 10, drivers to 1000s of drivers, they would use the mobile, the Motus mobile app to track and submit mileage that they can be fairly inaccurately reimbursed for. There are a number of Motus really is about. You know, we've been around since 2004. And really specializing in tax ability around these types of reimbursements. So we have a real competitive distinction and core expertise around that. And then providing the then business owners administrators to manage their program their reimbursements with their drivers. This is our core business. We also have a number of other products that impact this core business, which would be reimbursing around devices, cell phones, reimbursing around Location Services relocating, looking at, you know how to, you know, we also just launched a Motus card for managing your reimbursements, were can go on your card, and you can get deals and access to special offers, with your reimbursement going back on your cards. So that's really what Motus does.
Details on Motus' product team
So what's really cool about Motus is they are investing heavily in product technology at this time. That means just this year, they hired a Chief Product Officer. And two new VPs of product including myself, as a whole, the product team is 25 People which ranges from product managers to product owners, we have very clear divide and career paths for each, as well as we just hired for UX design and building that discipline in house. So it's a really robust team as it sits today. And we're really growing and investing in product at Lotus.
What a typical work week looks like
Well, we are in a really, like I mentioned it's a really exciting time, we're investing in product and technology. So in the past product has been more of a reactive role at Motus. And we are so our typical work week right now is really diving in and setting up product operations and being product lead at Motus. And that includes a lot of these areas of business, we're setting roadmaps for the first time long term product visions for the first time. So really, you know, a lot of my product managers are talking to customers talking to our client success team, talking to our operations managers to really understand the problems we're trying to solve, talking to our drivers, really understanding the problems we're trying to solve and set a clear vision and enrolling the company in that vision that is underway. And that is a big lift. We're also so that that happens every day, as well as then working with our technology, our technology partners, our development teams are project management to be interlock in changing how we operate to be more product LED. So looking at how our Scrum teams setup, what are their capabilities? How do we insert UX design, since that is a new discipline it at Motus, how do we insert that into the process, and we're really looking at refining all of those operational elements that go into being a well oiled mature product organization. So that is a lot of our workweek. And then hey, working with development to push out new features and, and solutions for our customers. And that is, you know, working with project management, we have a very mature project management organization that we work very closely with. So how do we align each week to make sure the project is outlined in the features we're looking to release are moving on time and removing blockers and communicating that to organization Yeah, that's that's really the work week in general at this moment, and will be over the next few months really.
What to expect during the interview process
At Motus first, hear from our recruiting team, and they are superb. They know what we're looking for, they know Motus so they can really, really help set you up for the interview process as well as you set you up for what's what this role is and what we're expecting. And anything really about Motus in general, then your first interview would be with the hiring manager, whoever is hiring, hiring for that role, and that, since I came on, I've hired four people. So a lot of times, that's me or another VP, or director or one of our senior product managers. And that would be a 30 minute first interview. And from there, we move on to more panel type interviews. So we really want to buy in from people you would be working most close with. And that includes representatives from Project representatives from our engineering team, and then representatives from other areas of product that you would be included. And usually that's either one to two type panel interviews. And depending on the level of the role, more senior roles will meet with the highest level in those areas, which would be our CTO, our chief product officer and our VP of project, we definitely pull those three leaders in for our more senior product roles.
About Motus' culture
I would describe the culture Motus being very generous and patient. In that a there is it has been around a long time. And there's definitely a lot of employees with long tenure and Motus, which is awesome. So you have a culture of with a rich domain expertise with the changes and like I said, investment in product and technology, it really were like up ending their lives in their world in so many ways. And it is just been I've been so impressed with the culture of openness, eagerness, willing to change, and supporting the change and supporting product led initiatives and changes and operations. It is been Yeah, it's been just a wonderful, wonderful experience in that way. Definitely a lot of generosity and knowledge sharing and getting people up to speed. Like I said, my team alone, 60% of us were hired this year. So that just gives you perspective of the newness of product and then relying on you know, these Motus perros to get us up to speed. And they've been, it's just been so generous. And just so I was just discovered as a culture of patience and learning, and real commitment to change.
Why now is the ideal time to join
This is like the ground floor of, product at Motus. And we have such an opportunity to solidify our place as the industry leader in mileage and mileage tracking and reimbursement, we have been the gorilla in the space, without having real product-led efforts without having money spent on engineers. And in reallyMotussetting visions, it's really just it's happened through, you know, on the backs have our customer success and our operations and a number and our project manager on a number of other people. And so having coming in now is, is the perfect time we're looking for product, people who are enthusiast about products who are eager to help jump in and help us become a real mature product, red led organization. I was really, really cool and been impressed pressive for me, coming from many other 15 years in product management coming in and having a chief product officer so having that voice at the C suite is so imperative and really, it's more unique than you think especially in a big organization like Motus. So yeah, I just think there's so much opportunity there's so much just kind of, there's just eagerness of, of product talent and being able to solve problems for our customers in a self serve software solution based way in so yeah, to be honest, I just think it's it's a fabulous, fabulous opportunity. There's so much low hanging fruit and opportunity, and we're being set up to succeed in so many ways.
